Pen and Ink Drawings

Pen and ink were never my preferred tool, it was only when I was told I rubbed out too much when using a pencil and told to draw with a pen to improve my first-hand studying skills that I really understood what you could do with it. Biro became my preferred pen to use starting off with biro portraits of my favourite rockstars which progressed into tattoo designs. I began to experiment more with the expressive side of pen and ink when I went to university after years of very precise formal drawing which bred a new style that I am still experimenting with today but I still partake in the rockstar portraits every once and a while.

Biro Drawings

This little series of drawing comes from an A6 sketchbook I carried round during lockdown and filled with various biro drawing of places I went as a way of recording places I went. Most of the drawings were from where I walked my dog or places I went past when travelling back to Bristol for university.

Marker Pen Drawings

When you think of a marker pen you think of a sharpie something to write on a plastic tub with, but marker pens can be used in such expressive and stunning ways. Markers can be used to created high contrast and deep blacks or when used with water, damp paper can be used to create gradual tone, the marker pen has given me the chance to make expressive but also fine detail work.
